South Carolina State Museum Yard Sale

The South Carolina Museum is cleaning out its prop and exhibit storage areas and is selling a variety of unique items to the public in its Yard Sale Saturday, April 14, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (8 – 9 a.m. special members-only preview sale).  Whether you are looking for something to hang on your walls or looking for your next weekend DIY project, the State Museum has the perfect treasure waiting to go in your home, school, office or church.

The yard sale allows the public to own a little piece of the museum through items associated with past exhibits, while supporting the museum and its future exhibits and programs. There will be props and graphics from previous exhibits for sale, including large and small objects like a giant inflatable Haagen Dazs ice cream pint. Also included are poster-size framed prints from previous traveling exhibits and several sizes of open wood and metal frames.

For the avid DIYers, the museum has plenty of great options. An assortment of Christmas, Halloween and patriotic holiday décor will be included in the sale. Also, materials from the museum’s exhibits workshop will be sold, including wood, plastic and metal pieces. The museum has the children covered, too. From interactive educational displays and hands-on play equipment, to books and toys – the museum has something for children of all ages.

The Cotton Mill Exchange is also cleaning out its excess inventory, several items of clothing will be on sale. Ranging in size, the museum will have a variety of fixtures, display cases and stands in this year’s sale. There also will be office furniture, supplies and more available for purchase.

The museum will hold a “Black Bag” sale from 1:30 until 2 p.m. when the larger sale is over, which guests can purchase a black bag for only $5 and fill it with anything left over from the sale. All objects sold must be removed from the Museum by 2 p.m. All proceeds from the sale will go to support the State Museum. There is no admission fee to attend the sale.
