Pysanky (Ukranian egg created with a written wax technique) One Day workshp

Pysanky are objects of traditional folk art, the painted eggs. They are created by a method that is similar to batik. Patterns are drawn on the egg with hot beeswax, which the protects the covered areas from the dye that is applied afterwards. By repeating this process with different colors of dye, a multi-colored pattern is built up. Finally, the wax is removed to reveal the colors that are sequentially covered up at each stage. Skill Level: Beginner Class size limited to minimum of (2) and maximum of (12). Registration fee of $40 includes instruction, all supplies and materials and operating costs. Instruction by Yevheniia (Jena) Bazaliy. Class will be held at Columbia Art Center Saturday March 23 from 12 – 2 pm.
