New York Times columnist David Leonhardt to discuss President Trump’s ascension at UofSC March 14

and Financial Journalism Lecture on Tuesday, March 14.
 
The lecture, titled “The Great Stagnation: How It Created President Trump,” will examine the role that economic conditions played in the 2016 presidential election and how they are impacting President Trump’s presidency. The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
 
Leonhardt is an op-ed columnist and associate editorial page editor at the New York Times, where he has worked in a variety of roles sinc 1999. A former economics columnist and Washington bureau chief, he went on to serve as editor of “The Upshot,” the newspaper’s blog on political and policy news. He won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for commentary for his columns on the financial crises and a 2009 Gerald Loeb Award for his magazine story, “Obamanomics.” He has appeared on PBS Newshour, Charlie Rose, NPR and The Colbert Report.
 
The Baldwin Lecture Series is funded by Baldwin Business and Financial Journalism Endowment. This endowment, founded by Kenneth Baldwin Jr., a 1949 graduate of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, provides educational support for students in the areas of investigative journalism and reporting on business and financial topics.
