Lexington County Museum Family Day

On Saturday June 27 from 9 am to 1 pm, the Lexington County Museum will host its second annual Family Day.  This event, which will be free, will feature many activities that children will enjoy.  Kids can enjoy programs that feature playing with historic games and toys and learning about the Cherokee that traded and hunted in what would become Lexington County.  These activities, which are based on the programs the museum offers for school groups during the week, are hands-on so kids can learn and play at the same time.  Children will get to play with toys such as Jacob’s ladder and perform activities such as making a clay pinch pot.  Archaeologists will also be present with children’s activities to educate children about archaeology and the things archaeologists find. In addition, several of the museum’s 36 structures will be open for tours.

The museum will also be hosting a Civil War encampment that weekend.  Living historians in uniform will participate in drill demonstrations as well as show what camp life was like.  This will be a great opportunity for adults and children to come and learn about the daily life of the average soldier, including the weapons they used, their uniforms, and what they ate. 

Visitors will also be treated to free hot dogs and drinks.  This event is a great time for visitors to learn about Lexington history and the museum while having fun.
