Intimate Grammars: A Diné (Navajo) Poetry Panel

On Friday, November 4th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Mckissick Museum there will be a Navajo poetry panel and discussion! This unique event was inspired by grad students who read an ethnography of Navajo poetry and had the idea to invite the author and some of the poets featured in the book to South Carolina. Come hear prize-winning poet Laura Tohe; poet Rex Lee Jim; and Dr. Anthony Webster, author of ‘Intimate Grammars: An Ethnography of Navajo Poetry’ speak about the Diné culture and the power of intimate grammar poetry. At 5:30pm there will be a reception on the 2nd floor of Mckissick Museum. At 6:30, the ‘Intimate Grammars’ poetry panel will begin on the first floor in Mckissick Auditorium. Entry is free! Anyone and everyone interested in poetry, linguistics, anthropology, and/or Native American studies is invited to come hear these amazing poets and linguistic anthropologist present and discuss their work. We hope to spark up an intimate conversation about language and the power poetry has to advocate social change and awareness.
