Bubbie's Brisket

Representatives from the Columbia Jewish Heritage Initiative will be on hand at the 8th Annual Bubbie’s Brisket and Bakery to collect stories and photos of your Bubbie!  Staff from Historic Columbia will have photo scanners and audio recorders so that you can share memories, recipes and stories of your grandmother (all materials will be scanned and returned immediately).  Images and stories may be included in a multi-discipline project, which will document as well as provide access to and awareness of local Jewish history.

About Columbia Jewish Heritage Initiative (CJHI)

Historic Columbia, in partnership with the College of Charleston’s Jewish Heritage Collection, the Jewish Community Center and Columbia Jewish Federation, the Jewish Historical Society of South Carolina and Richland Library, has established the Columbia Jewish Heritage Initiative—which will:

identify gaps in the documentation of Columbia’s Jewish history;
develop a forum for dialogue that is catalyzed by the collection and sharing of stories, images, documents, etc.;
harness the potential of  a variety of print, web-based and programmatic platforms to share information collected with diverse audiences; and
codify the coalition of organizations whose commitment to the effort will sustain activities well beyond the grant period.
