ArtBreak: Unsolved Mystery: Exploring the Classical Physics of Van Gogh's Art

Dr. Tyler Brown, Columbia College assistant professor of mathematics, explores Van Gogh’s mark-making systems seen in famous works such as The Starry Night that model fluid dynamics. Fluid dynamics of turbulent water or air is still an unsolved mystery of classical physics, and Van Gogh modeled it perfectly. Brown examines these dynamics to find patterns in the work of Van Gogh and others.
