Dr. Tyler Brown, Columbia College assistant professor of mathematics, explores Van Gogh’s mark-making systems seen in famous works such as The Starry Night that model fluid dynamics. Fluid dynamics of turbulent water or air is still an unsolved mystery of classical physics, and Van Gogh modeled it perfectly.
