University of SC Department of Theatre and Dance
We are one department, but our theatre and dance students are able to immerse themselves in their individual programs of study through performance spaces and opportunities not just for actors and dancers, but also for our scenic, costume, and lighting designers, aspiring teachers, and directors and choreographers. At USC, you can learn almost anything about the world of theatre and dance performance. With areas of study focused on acting, directing, design, stagecraft, teaching, and research, our theatre program offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to learn, to practice, and to chart their own course. Named one of the top three collegiate programs to consider for classical ballet by Dance Magazine, our dance program offers a solid curriculum in ballet and contemporary dance. Our Dance Major offers concentrations in either Performance and Choreography or Dance Education, with K-12 Certification. Our students don’t just learn — they do. Our theatre and dance programs stage numerous productions every year in one of our many performance spaces, and with those come countless opportunities to perform, direct, choreograph, design or work back stage. Our performances are open to our entire university family, as well as to our community and state.
