After experiencing two rounds of storm-induced flood damage in one year, Studio 2LR Architecture + Interiors needed to do something both functional and creative to protect their offices from future flood damage. Studio 2LR opted to partner with local companies to design and build a custom solution rather than purchase anything off the shelf. In collaboration with Clark Ellefson (Lewis + Clark) and Chris Stuyck (Stuyck Company), two decommissioned propane tanks were transformed into operable robot cisterns. They are designed to collect rain water from the roof gutters during rain events, then slowly disperse the water through a mouth spout and/or a release valve at the bottom of the sculpture. The robots have also become neighborhood celebrities #NOMARobots
