The Hanging Pages Gates are made up of 16 images derived from larger, deconstructed paintings. Much of the imagery in these paintings were inspired by a bookmaking workshop connected with this project involving the local community.  This imagery involves using multiple layers of calligraphic marks and grounds.
The deconstructed pages were then reassembled and unconventionally bound by the structure of the gates, creating new visual relationships between the images.
Known for her layering and mark making techniques, artist Laurie Brownell McIntosh is a South Carolina native. In 2012 she completed a work combining 74 panels telling the cradle to grave story of a life well lived titled “All the In Between: My Story of Agnes.” This work is on public display can be seen at Palmetto Parkridge Hospital.
