This mural was funded by the City of West Columbia through an art proposal contest. After a process of reviewing work, selected artist, Christine Lutfy, a native and local artist was chosen. This mural is located in the alleyway connecting State St. and the Interactive Art Park in West Columbia. It represents a broad range of activities and adventures you can do in West Columbia. The Gervais St. Bridge is depicted with a whimsical river, a trail with a variety of foliage and flowers, bikes & the Columbia bike rack, inner tubes & kayaks for floating down the river, the Riverbanks Zoo representing two popular animals, the giraffe and gorilla, a map showing the rivers meeting, and a large sun meaning that everyday is a new day, shedding light on the art community. Later, plants and foliage were added around the mural to give it more of an environmentally friendly and clean look, which added a lot to the area. This mural has completely transformed the alleyway and the surroundings nearby. This is just the beginning for West Columbia to revive the arts community and we are so excited to see whats coming next.
