The process

Step 1: Project Planning

  • Choose site and type of artwork
  • Set budget and artwork details
  • Secure property approval and permits

Step 2: Call to Artists

  • Decide on type of call (open, limited, or direct selection)
  • Form selection committee
  • Publish call with guidelines, budget, and requirements

Step 3: Award Process

  • Narrow applicants to 3–5 finalists
  • Review concepts, budgets, timelines, and maintenance plans
  • Select and contract the artist

Step 4: Artwork Creation & Installation

  • Artist fabricates artwork
  • Site prepared and artwork installed

Timelines

  • Discovery: 4–12 weeks
  • Development: 6–12 weeks
  • Fabrication & Installation: 12–52 weeks
