FAAAC presents Celebrating a Culture of Giving: Collecting & Sharing African American Art

Presented by Columbia Museum of Art at Columbia Museum of Art

The Friends of African American Art and Culture join with Valaida Fullwood, creator of The Soul of Philanthropy, to celebrate the important role of collecting and sharing art to preserve African American culture. The Soul of the Philanthropy, on view at the Richland Library February 10 – May 6, 2018, is a tribute to the history of African American philanthropy.  The exhibition is sponsored by Central Carolina Community Foundation, Richland Library, and Women Engaged SC.

The CMA event will feature Fullwood, art collector Marjorie Hammock, and storyteller Darion McCloud talking about their roles in sharing and passing on African American culture. The event is inspired by both the exhibition and the book, Giving Back: A Tribute to Generations of African American Philanthropists by Fullwood will be on hand for a book-signing prior to the event.  Art collectors, aspiring art collectors, artists, photographers, culture keepers, and philanthropists are encouraged to attend.
