ArtBreak: Nature Uncovered with Botanist and Curator Dr. John B. Nelson

Curator and Botantist Dr. John B. Nelson gives insight into the natural photography of Imogen Cunningham and highlights plant anatomy found in some of her pieces. Dr. Nelson is the curator of the A.C. Moore Herbarium located on the campus of the University of South Carolina where he also teaches courses in plant science, flora, and taxonomy of the grass family. Previously, he was an ecologist and a botanist with SC Wildlife & Marine Resources Department. This project is supported by a Connected Communities grant from Central Carolina Community Foundation.

ArtBreak is a program that looks at art through a different lens. Each session features a speaker who gives insight into their worldview by sharing their interpretation of works of art at the CMA. Begin the morning at the museum at 10:30 a.m. with pastries and coffee sold at a pop-up café from Curiosity Coffee. Program starts at 11:00 a.m.
