In August of 2017, Indie Grits Labs (IGL) announced a site-specific, ongoing exploration of how racial and socioeconomic factors define experiences and interactions within a shared city. Entitled “Two Cities”, the project is primarily focused on North Columbia, and is spearheaded by thirteen IGL fellows (filmmakers, artists, activists, community organizers, agriculturalists, etc).
Each Fellow began their investigation with the production of 27 photographs shot on disposable cameras in North Main neighborhoods to better understand how they personally see and engage with their communities. This art book—a collection of photos, collages, and writings, represents the first collaborative work by the 2018 IGL Fellows as part of the “Two Cities” project. All other “Two Cities” works will be revealed during the 2018 Indie Grits Festival, April 12-15.
