Legends of Concert

Presented by Auntie Karen Foundation at Koger Center for the Arts

The Auntie Karen Foundation will return to the Koger Center in February 2018 with a Tribute to Prince featuring Morris Day and The Time and Sheila E. Fans of the late singer/songwriter/ producer will want to purchase tickets for this live performance, 8 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Koger Center for the Arts. The Auntie Karen All-Star Band will kick off this legendary evening with a unity choir.

Formed in 1981, Morris Day & The Time were close associates with the late Prince and enjoyed commercial success with songs such as “The Bird,” “Jungle Love,” “Ice Cream Castles” and “777-9311.” Sheila E, now 59, began her career as a percussionist and became a star in the mid-80s thanks to hits like “The Glamorous Life,” and “A Love Bizarre”. Before going solo, she provided many of the background vocals for Prince’s songs like “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Erotic City.”

A friend of Prince’s since childhood, Morris Day famously costarred in Prince’s groundbreaking 1984 movie “Purple Rain,” which catapulted Prince into superstardom and spawned the blockbuster Prince album of the same name. Prince’s protégé and one-time fiancé Sheila E. was also a major player in the Purple Rainextravaganza, opening for Prince on his epic ‘84-‘85 Purple Rain tour, which ran for a massive 98 shows. Unquestionably two of music’s most notable names profoundly tied to Prince, Morris Day and Sheila E. will play individual sets during the concert.

The Auntie Karen Foundation created the Legends of…series to pay tribute to the contributions African American music has made to history and is returning after a one year hiatus. Each year during Black History Month, the series profiles a jazz, rhythm and blues, gospel or blues artist who has made significant contributions to the history of music.
