Giving Back: The Soul of Philanthropy Reframed and Exhibited

Giving Back: The Soul of Philanthropy Reframed and Exhibited

Presented by Richland Library at Richland Library, Main Branch

Come to see philanthropy differently.

After a nationwide tour, Columbia will serve as South Carolina’s inaugural host of Giving Back: The Soul of Philanthropy Reframed and Exhibited, a multimedia exhibition dedicated to sharing the tradition of African-American philanthropy. The Soul of Philanthropy persents the long and unsun legacy of black philanthropy – from generous donors of wealth to every day givers carving a way out of no way.

The inspiration for this exhibit comes from the award-winning book Giving Back: A tribute to Generations of African American Philanthropists, written by Valaida Fullwood with photographer Charles Thomas. The 400-page hardcover book celebrates the giving spirit through photography and stories that honors a centuries-old cultural custom.

Visit www.yourfoundation.org/soulsc to read more about education and community-wide events planned to celebrate this tradition of giving.

We hope you will join us as a donor in one of the many ways listed here. Your gift helps underwrite education and outreach and opportunities during the exhibition.
