*** October’s Featured Artist: Laura Hine ***

“I was raised in the City of Columbia, South Carolina. For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for all things odd, strange, old, beautiful, and insignificant (well, depending on whose perspective). I love the visual arts, and always have. My deep-rooted appreciation and passion for the arts has found its voice through numerous media, but the one that resonates with me the most is paint. Oil paint in all its excitable tangibility- from its long-bearing history to today’s modern applications. I have other loves in my life as well. My husband, family, and friends are a fierce foremost. It is through their encouragement and support that I owe a great deal of my development and evolution as a young professional in the visual arts. Some other loves include our cat and dog, wine and cheese, anything antique, languages, books, playing ukulele, and ice cream. Just to name a few.

After completing my undergraduate program in Studio Art with an emphasis in Painting and a minor in Art History from the University of South Carolina in 2011, I moved to Groningen, the Netherlands, where I studied and collaborated with numerous artists until 2013. I continued with my education by pursuing a Master’s program in the Conservation and Restoration of Easel Paintings and Frames with Accademia Riaci in Florence, Italy. After completing the program in the summer of 2014, I returned to Columbia where I found employment as a Conservation Technician with Carolina Conservation, specializing in the treatment of fire and water damaged works of art. Currently, I work as an Assistant Preparator at the Columbia Museum of Art and continue to work freelance in the field of Paintings Conservation. I have participated in many shows over the past few years; including solo shows, Figure Out! and Smaller Beckons with Tapps Art Center, BeHance Portfolio Review, as well as ArtFields in Lake City, South Carolina.”

Art(uncorked) is curated and hosted by Karl L. Larsen.
