Event including a screening of a documentary on the voguing dance movement with a special introduction by South Carolina Black Pride.
A part of our Dance Scene series.
Special introduction by South Carolina Black Pride.
Director: Sara Jordanö
Popularized by Madonna’s 1990 hit single “Vogue,” voguing is a highly stylized and accomplished form of dance performed within the underground ballroom community. Consisting of dance moves and controlled gestures that parody, replicate and critique mainstream society, voguing has emerged as a powerful and political mode of contemporary dance. Set within New York’s LGTBQ community, KIKI explores how dance and ballroom solidify community ties and empower queer youth.
The mission of the South Carolina Black Pride (SCBP) is to unify and celebrate the diversity, creativity, and beauty of the South Carolina Black Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and questioning LGBT communities and our supporters, in order to empower and promote the human rights of all families and communities.
