Get ready to get down, because we’re bringing in DJ Rekha from New York to spin some Punjabi sounds. DJ Rekha has pioneered merging bhangra and Bollywood sounds with contemporary electronic dance music and was named the “Ambassador of Bhangra” by the New York Times. She has performed around the world and in the U.S., from the Chicago Symphony Hall to the Women’s March on Washington, and has curated events for Celebrate Brooklyn and Central Park Summerstage.
A folk dance from the Punjab region of India and Pakistan, Bhangra has gained popularity around the world and been fused with all styles of music. Come early for a bhangra tutorial by local dance instructor Rudri Bhatiya at 6.30. And while you’re here, be sure to check out the exhibition Light Beings by Sana Arjumand, a contemporary Pakistani artist.
$5 / Free for members.
