Guest artist Zuill Bailey is among the most sought after cellists today and has been praised for his virtuoso technique, strong, richly expressive tone and bold, individual manner of playing. He plays with the orchestra on Prokoviev’s Sinfonia Concertante. From the cello's soul-stirring entrance to the tension and drama of the second movement, to the riveting conclusion, this is a piece of soaring lyricism and vast spaces, with profoundly reflective and intimate passages. Also on the program is Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2 in C minor, known as the Little Russian and one of the composer’s most joyous compositions.
