The Sacred Harp was a primary sourcebook for singing in the 19th century American South. As part of a Civil War symposium presented by Patrons and Friends of the Arts at Ebenezer, Jonathon Smith, a leading expert on the subject, will guide participants through the “shaped-note” tradition from a historical perspective and eventually lead us in singing. He will also remind participants that the Sacred Harp is a living, breathing, ongoing practice passed directly to us by generations of singers. Free and open to the public, Saturday, October 18 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Columbia.
