A discussion on the multimedia techniques used to capture the experiences of Fort Lauderdale and Wilton Manors’ LGBT community in Santiago Echeverry’s “Cabaret: Unsung Heroes.”
Colombian-American artist Santiago Echeverry discusses historical and social references that influence his work on view in Cabaret: Unsung Heroes. The exhibition captures the memories, lives, motions, experiences, and appearances of the LGBT community of Fort Lauderdale and Wilton Manors, Florida. Using 3D space-capturing sensors, he creates large-format prints, videos, and real-time installations portraying unsung heroes of his adopted cities, exploring their uniqueness and charisma in a political era marked by contention, oppression, and divisiveness.
This exhibition is presented as a part of Indie Grits, themed this year as Visiones. Visiones is inspired by the rapid and growing migration from Latin America that is changing the face of the American Southeast.
