The Columbia Museum of Art and the Friends of African American Art & Culture are pleased to present a lecture and discussion from North Carolina artist James Williams. An associate professor of art at Guilford Technical Community College, Williams brings a wealth of experience in mixed-media forms, melding photography, cartography, and architecture to create unique and intellectually rich pieces of art. Having become interested in both teaching and art while a football player at Ferrum College, Williams brings with him a wide range of both life and scholarly experiences that he will share with attendees. His exhibition at the CMA, entitled Spoken: Making Maps: The Art of James Williams, features Williams’ use of objects and places to create maps of the world around us. This is Williams’ first museum show, and it is being featured at the CMA through March 12, 2017.
