“Since independence, we have travelled a long way. From being categorized in popular perception as a land of poverty, illiteracy, disease and hunger, India today is rising power; a country fast emerging as a global leader in science, technology, innovation and startups. From being a famine ridden land, we are fast becoming the food basket for the world. This year we have become the fastest growing large economy on the planet, the largest recipient of (foreign direct investment). According to most informed estimates, we are likely to continue on this high growth trajectory in the years ahead, eliminating poverty from our midst in the next 10 to 15 years.” – Consul General Singh at India’s 67th Republic Day celebration in Atlanta, Jan. 26, 2016 (Global Atlanta).
