State Museum to Host Holiday Table Trimmings Event

State Museum to Host Holiday Table Trimmings Event

Presented by South Carolina State Museum at South Carolina State Museum

The South Carolina State Museum will give guests a one of a kind experience with nationally recognized silver expert Dawn Corley, known as the “Charleston Silver Lady,” Tuesday Nov. 15 from 7 until 9 p.m. Guests will get an intimate look at how to create a classic holiday party or dinner with all the trimmings.

Corley will give talks on how to make any table the talk of the holiday season. Guests will get to see two special table tops designed by Corley herself with pieces dating back to the 18th century. Corley will also give live demonstrations of flower arrangements to form two unique centerpieces as well as create a holiday table set up from scratch. Guests will also learn how to master a holiday setting without having a vast antique collection.

“This the perfect event for you to get all your holiday gathering ideas,” said Celeste Wszola, State Museum programs manager. “Corley’s presentations are always very popular because guests are able to see unique treasures and pieces among her collection and learn the fascinating stories about the people who once owned them.”

A descendent of one of Charleston’s colonial silversmiths, Corley has spent a lifetime collecting and gathering silver from South Carolina. Her particular focus is on Charleston and the 18th and 19th centuries. Corley has given presentations to U.S. presidents, the Pentagon, the Family Circle Cup and hundreds of other groups around the nation. She has been featured in such magazines as Southern Living, National Geographic, Veranda and South Carolina Home and Garden. She has also been featured on local and national television, including HGTV’s “If Walls Could Talk,” on subjects related to her antiques.

Tickets are $50 for general public and $40 for members and includes light refreshments. Space is limited for this event. Guests are encouraged to purchase their tickets online at scmuseum.org.
