Seven Pillars: Sandbox Percussion Plays Akiho

Seven Pillars: Sandbox Percussion Plays Akiho

Presented by University of South Carolina School of Music at University of South Carolina Music Building Recital Hall

Southern Exposure’s free 2022-23 season opens with a theatrical new concert-length work of stunning power and transcendent beauty.
“Seven Pillars” is UofSC graduate Andy Akiho’s masterpiece and is on its way to becoming a landmark of 21st-century music. The monumental work for percussion quartet was a finalist for two Grammy Awards (Best Chamber Music / Small Ensemble Performance and Best Contemporary Classical Composition) and for the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in Music. Created during the pandemic with Akiho’s long-time collaborators, the astoundingly virtuosic Sandbox Percussion, “Seven Pillars” has been called a “lush, brooding celebration of noise” (New York Times).

This performance will be in the School of Music’s Recital Hall, 813 Assembly St., second floor.
This event is free, and no reservations are required. Your generous donation of $150 guarantees you exclusive access to the best seat available for all four 2022-23 concerts.
