Artists for Africa 5th Annual Performance Art Event

Artists for Africa will celebrate its 5th Anniversary Performance Art Event at the Scottish Rite Valley located at 7230 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia on Thursday, August 4, 2016. The cocktail hour will begin at6:30 PM with a silent auction as well as artwork and artisan pieces from Kenya for sale. Performances will follow the cocktail reception.

Seven of Artists for Africa’s dance and scholarship students from Kenya will be traveling to Columbia to participate in USC’s Dance Conservatory Summer Program. These Artists from Africa will be featured performers at this year’s event along with founder, Cooper Rust.  Also slated to perform this year are many of the Midland’s finest artists including the Next Door Drummers, vocalist Walter Graham with pianist Jason Carpenter, dancer Jeff Lander, actress Dewey Scott Wiley, actress Vicky Saye Henderson, Master of Ceremonies, Lanny Spires, and a blast of bluegrass by Dr. Lawrence Kline and friends.

Artists for Africa was founded in 2010 by Columbia native Cooper Rust to provide free creative arts programs and educational opportunities to underserved children in Nairobi, Kenya. “Our programs have been able to reach so many children in Kenya who might otherwise never be exposed to the creative arts,” Rust commented.

All proceeds from Artists for Africa’s fundraising events are used to directly benefit the needs of impoverished children in Africa through its programs and services.More information about Artists for Africa, its partners and programs can be found at artistsforafricausa.org
