Palmetto Luna Arts Presents DiverCity –Latino Arts Exhibition at TAPPS Art Center

Opening reception during First Thursdays on Main Street on May 5th, 2016

Palmetto Luna Arts presents DiverCity –Latino Arts Exhibition, at TAPPS Arts Center at TAPPS Art Center located on 1644 main Street Columbia SC 29201. The opening reception will be during “First Thursdays on Main Street” on May 5th, 2016 from 6 to 9 PM. DiverCity is an initiative to present Latino art through the talent of thirteen artists including painters, sculptors, print-makers and mix media artists.  The exhibition will be on display until May 31st, 2016. Entrance is free.

DiverCity celebrates through art the diversity of cultures, languages, religious beliefs, traditions, ways of thinking, and many other forms of human expression in many cities across the state.  This exhibition includes all Latino artist residents of South Carolina and was first presented in Greenville, and is now moving to Columbia and other cities. The participating artists are: Alejandro Garci?a-Lemos Diana Farfan, Amanda Ladymon, Claudia Dominguez, Esther Rivas, Jose Perez, Laura Hoyt, Luis Jaramillo, Ivanovish, Christian Guerrero, Fredy Ahuejote, Alice Rodriguez and Ermesto Hernandez.

The opening reception for DiverCITY will also include Palmetto Luna’s new initiative “LUCHA LIBRO [The Writers Fight] –a literary challenge. As part of this initiative, Latino writers have a friendly challenge to create a literary piece (short story, poem, essay, play, etc) to “compete” with other artists to produce the best writing in a friendly “fight”. In a play of words with “Lucha Libre” (professional wresting in Spanish), this project is titled LUCHA LIBRO (“Libro” means book in Spanish).
