Southern Exposure - Indie Grits Collaboration: eighth blackbird

Southern Exposure - Indie Grits Collaboration: eighth blackbird

Presented by USC School of Music at Gervais and Gist Riverwalk

A sextet of progressive and singular musicians, known for their multiple Grammy Award-winning music and collaborations as well as their MacArthur Genius Grant, eighth blackbird is coupled with site-specific live performance visuals featuring new work from Indie Grits filmmakers.

Hailed as “one of the smartest, most dynamic contemporary classical ensembles on the planet” (Chicago Tribune), eighth blackbird is known for working spontaneously and with artists in other disciplines, making them ideal candidates to match live visual creations.

Indie Grits filmmaker Patrick Nugent, orchestrates a visual performance to accompany the music. Nugents’s site-specific visual installation features archival footage from USC’s Moving Image Research Collection and found footage from the Waterlines video archive collected from the recent catastrophic flooding that hit Columbia.
