Gallery West will host an exhibition of the work of seven artists whose work focuses on the varied members of the equine or horse family. Participating artists include Stephen Chesley, Andrea Hennings, Janet Kozachek, Janet Oliver, Glen Saborosch, Marie Stone van Vuuren, and Lynne Tanner. 

“Equine Art: Family Portraits” will run from April 1 through May 22, 2016. A wine and hors d’oeuvres Opening Reception will be held at the gallery on Friday, April 1 from 6:00-8:00.

South Carolina is home to two high profile horse events held each spring. The Aiken Spring Steeplechase will be held this year on March 26, followed by The Carolina Cup in Camden on April 2. This time of year, the minds of horse and race enthusiasts turn to the track and chance to see these majestic animals at their sleekest and best.  However, the horse family family is much broader than the images that come to mind when we think of horse farms, stables, and racing. The species actually includes other wonderful “family members”.

“Equine Art: Family Portraits” will be a beautiful, diverse, and playful overview of the family of horses and will include not only classical horse portraits, but also delightful donkeys, exotic zebra, horse drawings that are heavily influenced by early Persian and Asian art, paintings of toy horses, and ceramic and metal sculpture.
