Please join us for “Open Walls,” an Artist Reception for Christy Aitken, featuring classical guitarist Joseph Tollefsen. Christy was born in England, grew up in South America and resided in the mid-west before calling Columbia home for 16 years now. She has a degree in painting and printmaking from the Atlanta College of Art, now known as SCADS.
“I moved around a lot growing up. I spent a lot of time outside the U.S. in Central and South America. I moved almost every year of my life. The sights, sounds and smells of foreign places remain with me as an adult painter. My skies, vivid colors and houses are inspired from a lack of belonging and wanting to belong. Life was unsettling and loud; the brilliant, glassy skies were haunting in the Andes Mountains. I think the unforgettable loneliness in a foreign land was amplified as a child and comes out in my work today.”
Christy wants the viewer to feel atmosphere, isolation and to question the lost and found images in her paintings. Her exhibition will continue through March 19, 2016.
