Life Underground

Life Underground

Presented by Columbia Museum of Art at Columbia Museum of Art

It’s the 1980s, and the Soviet Union is teetering on the edge of transition. Let’s go underground with panelists Dr. Judith Kalb, Russian program director at UofSC’s department of languages, literatures and cultures; artist Irina Nakhova, whose work is featured in The Ironic Curtain; and Dr. Gordon Smith, distinguished professor emeritus in the political science department at UofSC. Enjoy a lively and candid conversation about life under Soviet government control with particular emphasis on issues of personal and artistic freedom. Moderated by Joel Samuels, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and director of the Rule of Law Collaborative at UofSC.

Sponsored by the Richard L. Walker Institute of International Studies at UofSC.
