To Own the Suffering
Creative Authorship and Institutional Critique

A Call To Artists:

Multidisciplinary visual artist Michaela Pilar Brown has partnered with performer, director, choreographer Terrance Henderson and the Outpost to launch a collaborative project titled, ‘To Own the Suffering” – Creative Authorship and Institutional Critique’. This project operates in three phases:

A call to artists to participate in the project;
A public symposium to discuss our current systems of cultural access and to develop and perform publicly edited documents resulting from this symposium;
A bibliography and public exhibition of collaborating artists.
If interested in participation, artists should submit a general description of their practice, describing what they make, the framework and conversations housed in what they make, why they make it, and how that work enters the world.

If accepted into the project, the artist will participate in conversations within the symposium, creative work sessions with collaborators, and open critique to produce work in response to the material gathered through these moderated dialogues.

*Six work samples in the media of their choosing should be included in the submission.
