Join Historic Columbia for a two-day professional development workshop! This year’s teacher workshop will explore the NEW 2020 Social Studies Standards, Civil Rights and Intersectionality in South Carolina. Teachers will have the opportunity to develop curriculum materials aligned with the new standards to use in their classrooms. Participants will also be able to explore resources available for their classroom through Historic Columbia (including the reinterpretation project at Modjeska Monteith Simkins’ House), the The South Carolina Historical Society, the South Carolina Geographic Alliance, and the SC Council for History Education. University of South Carolina’s Dr. Valinda Littlefield will be joining us as the featured guest lecturer. Continuing education credit is provided for this workshop.
We are adding an additional session this year to limit the number of participants in each workshop and ensure proper social distancing practices. Join us on August 3rd and 4th OR August 6th and August 7th from 9am-3pm! Participants have the option to take part in-person or virtually.
Registration includes lunch for both days and a t-shirt. Cost is $30 for Teacher Members and $35 for non-members. Contact Kelly Kinard at 803.252.1770 x26 or kkinard@historiccolumbia.org with any questions, or to register for the virtual option.
