At-Home Virtual Summer Camps

June 8 – July 3, 2020

The South Carolina State Museum in Columbia is excited to introduce At-Home Virtual Summer Camps this June for ages 6 – 11, sponsored by AFLAC! These week-long camps will focus on a different theme each day, including natural history, astronomy, robotics, art, S.T.E.A.M and more.

Our goal is to provide an at home camp experience that is not only educational and keeps your children entertained for a few hours, but also provides campers a safe place to express their emotions and feelings during this very strange time. We won’t just be staring at a screen all day either! We asked our campers and they said they want to dance, wiggle, and move – so we’ll be doing that every day!

How Do At-Home Virtual Camps Work?
Each day is split into two sessions: 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Each camp week comes with a kit of supplies for the daily activities. Kits will include enough materials for one camper – but can be shared with other campers in the household. Additional kits are available for an add-on fee. Kits will be available for pick-up at the museum on the Friday before the camps week starts from 6 – 7 p.m.
Camp activities are designed with parents in mind. Activities are intended to be completed with virtual assistance from museum educators and require little parental oversight.
Activities are hands-on and mostly mess-free.
What Does Camp Registration Include?
Access to live virtual content and museum educators
1 set of materials for the entire week of camp
Access to museum educators during “office hours” if you’d like to continue learning

Important Information
Teaching interactions occur through Zoom and materials will be picked up at the museum.

All activities will occur through Zoom. Participants must have a reliable internet connection and download Zoom to their computers.

Kit materials pick-up for each week will be the Friday before from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Group Visits entrance. We will have a table and will come out to your car. You will be given a date and time after registering. Kits cannot be mailed.

Materials also need to be dropped off the following week. You will be given a date and time after registering.

If you are unable to make the pick-up or drop-off window Ms. Laura or Mr. Bryan will work with you to find an alternate time.

All materials are being prepped by sanitizing materials into boxes and marking those boxes with green tape once they are totally clean and safe.

Upon return, materials will be marked with red tape to signify that they have not been re-sanitized and cannot be given to another guest.

Staff will be wearing masks and washing hands throughout the kit making process.
