Stagbriar Debut

Stagbriar Debut

Presented by Comfort Monk at Online/Virtual Space

Comfort Monk is an organized effort to channel artistic efforts in the Columbia, SC area: albums, podcasts, zines, written interviews, and live shows.

Stagbriar spent 2018 and 2019 reintroducing themselves in a big way, sharing bills with acts such as Ohmme, John Moreland, Justin Townes Earle, Waxahatchee and many more in a big-stage comeback after a 4-year hiatus. THIS INFO TO BE MADE PUBLIC ON JUNE 19TH (VIDEO JUNE 26TH).

On June 19th and 26th Stagbriar will unveil the first single and then video from their second full-length album, Suppose You Grow. The sophomore record will release in full on August 21st via Comfort Monk, the young podcast-centered art collective with a newfound label initiative. The single, maybe too aptly titled “The Flu”, was co-written with Columbia’s own Cayla Fralick and recorded a few months prior to the horrors of COVID-19.

The video, however, was directed, filmed, edited, and produced by Alex and Emily McCollum of Stagbriar in April and May of 2020, where every social distancing precaution was paramount and an unintended relevance to the song’s title reared its head.

“It serves as a journal of sorts for each member of the band and Cayla, all of us in our natural quarantine habitats–all praying to be liberated by this cello. Fishing. Finding the flu.” – Alex

SUPPOSE YOU GROW
LP/CD/DIGITAL
Out August 21st

Recorded almost entirely live over the course of 8 hours at Archer Avenue Studio in Columbia, SC, Stagbriar’s long-awaited sophomore LP is an emotionally raw depiction of the sometimes infinite space between forgiving and forgetting and what it means to move forward. A departure from their duo-centric debut, Stagbriar finds themselves creating bigger, edgier moments that more closely mirror their energized live experience, while still finding space for the subtle and softer folk they’re loved for. It’s a brilliant jump forward.
