Interview with artist Phillip Mullen
Artist Philip Mullen talks about his art and his CMA collection piece, titled View. Watch the interview.

Mullen came to South Carolina in 1969 to teach at the University of South Carolina. Through his time living in the area, he has become one of the most renowned artists in the state. Mullen is the only living South Carolina artist featured in the Whitney Biennial by the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.

His work is also included in the State Art Collection, the Guggenheim Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Brooklyn Museum, Columbia Museum of Art, Greenville County Museum of Art, and McKissick Museum.

Mullen recently won the 2020 Verner Award for Lifetime Achievement which is one of South Carolina’s highest awards for achievement in the arts presented by the South Carolina Arts Commission.

A highlight piece in the gallery will include a project Mullen began in 1976 and finished early this year.
