Zine Workshop with Evelyn Wong

Zine Workshop with Evelyn Wong

Presented by SVAD at Unknown

UofSC’s artist in residence, Evelyn Wong, will be doing a Facebook Live event showing you how to make your own Zine!

SVAD and Stormwater Studios Artist-in-Residence Evelyn Wong is live streaming her last workshop on Monday, March 30 at 10 am.

Although zines have been around since the early-mid part of the 20th century, their rise to popularity came during the age of punk culture when the accessibility to commercial and home printers became more widespread. Cultural shifts and artist activism found that zines could be easily distributed as a form of guerrilla art. Today, zines are made to talk about every kind of topic in the world and can even be made virtual to be shared with an online audience.
In this workshop, participants will view samples of zines and learn to make their own paper zines around the topic of food and recipes.

After the livestream, feel free to go at your own pace. This is where you can get detailed and creative. Once finished, we will share them virtually through photographs and use them as a way to discuss where we came from!

Upload a picture of your zine cover to the video comments and DM us pictures of the rest of the zine to be added to our community album on Facebook, along with any descriptions or comments, by Friday, April 3.

You’ll need the following items to make your own zine:

* Paper: any kind! Copy paper, paper bags, construction paper, printed newspaper, magazines, whatever you’ve got.

* Something to draw or write with: pencils, pens, markers, sharpies, crayons

* Optional / other: scissors, glue, stapler, magazines and newspapers that you can cut up, old photos you can cut out, stamps and stamp pads, stickers, watercolors and brushes, old artwork or sketches, paint sample strips, leaves, sequins, colorful papers, lined or gridded papers, anything you can think of!

Join us on our Facebook page (uofscSVAD) to take part in this free community-oriented workshop.
