Sofrito & Soul Festival

Presented by Latino Communications CDC at Sandhills Research and Education Center

COLUMBIA, S.C. – On Saturday, September 19, 2015 hundreds of families will come to the beautiful grounds of the Sandhills Research and Education Center (Clemson Ext) at 900 Clemson Road in northeast Columbia SC, across from the Village at Sandhill for Sofrito and Soul, a celebration of Latin music, food and cultural arts.

This family-friendly event has FREE admission and parking is just $5.00 per vehicle. Sofrito and Soul begins at 11:00am celebrating diversity and community harmony in a safe and festive atmosphere. Citizens from all over the state will come to enjoy cuisine from a wide variety of vendors and activities that include the following:

? Dante Lewis and band – Smooth and Gospel Jazz Poetry Slam 

? Palmetto Latin Orchestra – Salsa & Tropical Latin Rhythm John Tudor Magic Show

? Romonta Allen – R&B artist from Virginia Mariachi band

? Gospel Choirs Kids Zone

? “World Famous” Johnny Green of KISS 103.1 FM – music and emcee

? Richland County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, Kids Fingerprints

? Grupo Frenesi Digital Tex Mex group from Charleston 

? Palmetto Luna Arts presenting “Arts In Motion”

Proceeds will benefit several local groups, including CJ’s Kids, a support organization for the children of cancer survivors. Information will also be available on all of the programs offered by Latino Communications. The newest outreach project is Pan de Vida (Bread of Life) a culinary institute that is a vocational and life skills program for at-risk youth and young adults. Latino Communications (LCCDC) is a community based, non-profit designated 501(c)(3) organization thathelps to bridge the gap and remove barriers created by language, culture and economic differences. We strive to help low-moderate income families achieve financial stability and independence through financial literacy education, job training and home-ownership workshops. We also seek to strengthen families and the greater community through arts and cultural, family-friendly events and at-risk youth intervention programs. Latino Communications assists families and individuals in Kershaw, Richland, Lexington, Newberry, Saluda and Sumter counties.
