WHAT:
The Columbia Museum of Art present a lecture with Dr. Brad Collins, art history professor at USC and author of Pop Art, in conjunction with the exhibition From Marilyn to Mao: Andy Warhol’s Famous Faces.The exhibition includes 55 of Warhol’s most iconic portraits of celebrities, including a full set of 10 silkscreen portraits of Mao Zedong. The exhibition focuses on idea of the cult of celebrity and how identity is immortalized in art. Collins discusses Andy Warhol and his place in time. While Warhol revolutionized the art world in the ’60s, he continued to shape the cultural landscape into the’70s and ’80s, as many of the works in the exhibition attest.
Following the lecture, Brad Collins will be available to sign copies of his book, Pop Art. The book can be purchased in the CMA shop.
