Major and the Monbacks – Hailing from Norfolk, VA, Major and the Monbacks have created their own blend of rock n’ roll, psychedelic twang, soaring three-part harmonies, and the high energy and horn laden grit of southern soul. With three songwriters all switching between lead and backing vocal duties, as well as a full 8-piece ensemble – that includes a lively horn section and a powerful rhythm section comprised of both a drummer and full time percussion player – the Monbacks have honed a very powerful sound. The band’s debut full length album, available now, has given the band a chance to finally capture the energy and tenacity of their live performances.
Atlas Road Crew – Named for the road in front of their original practice space in Columbia, Atlas Road Crew now calls Charleston, SC home – an appropriate base of operations for a group that has perfected a classic rock n’ roll sound shot through with southern soul accents. On a foundation of Allman Brothers Band riffs and Black Crowes attitude mixed with Memphis blues, soul, and the Rolling Stones, Atlas Road Crew has been building a fan base through constant touring – over 200 shows a year.
The band refers to themselves not as southern rock, but “southeastern rock,” an appropriate designation since their popularity in college towns across the country began in the Carolinas and Georgia. They have a sound that transcends diverse styles, with the result of a familiar yet new twangy, swampy, southern rock n’ soul.
