PRINTS FROM EUROPE Opening Reception

Presented by if ART Gallery at if ART Gallery

Join if ART gallery for an all-day opening reception for the Print From Europe exhibition. Guests are invited to view these limited edition prints from the last six decades by some of the 20th century most famous artists such as Dutch artists Karel Appel, Corneille, Bram van Velde, Bram Bogart, Anton Heyboer and Lucebert; Belgian artist Reinhoud; and French artist Jacques Doucet. The show also includes work by African-American artists Herbert Gentry and Sam Middleton, who worked and lived in Europe, and Luis Filcer, a Mexican artist who grew up in Ukraine and lived in The Netherlands for several decades. Most of the artworks are lithographs, silkscreen and etchings. The exhibition will also include a library section with dozens of books and catalogues about the artists represented.

More about the exhibition.

“Prints From Europe is an excellent opportunity for people to see work by very prominent artists, the folks who make the books on the world history of art, and buy some of their art at surprisingly low prices,” if ART Gallery owner Wim Roefs said. “People such Appel, Corneille, Van Velde, Heyboer and others are in the collections of some of the most prominent museums in the world, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris or the Tate in London. Sam Middleton’s work was represented in America Is Hard To See, the reinterpretation and overview of American art that the Whitney Museum in New York mounted when it opened its new facility in 2015. Karel Appel, who died in 2006, has had recent exhibitions, including retrospectives, at the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C, the Centre Pompidou and the Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, both in Paris, the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague and other places.”

Also included in the exhibition are Dutch artists Kees Salentijn and Sjaak Korsten, who both are represented by if ART Gallery, and other Dutch artists such as Pierre van Soest, Bert Loerakker and Mark Brusse, whose recent retrospective was at Museum Het Valkhof in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
