The Palmetto Mastersingers present a program of seasonal tunes spanning the holidays from Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Hanukkah to the New Year.
Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Christmas follow in quick succession in late November and December, and there’s the first day of winter as well. It’s the change of themes and seasons, a time of reflection, devotion, parties—and music!
The Palmetto Mastersingers celebrate these occasions with “Feast, Fast and Frolic,” to be presented on Friday, November 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and on Saturday, November 23, at St. Andrews Presbyterian. Each program begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, general admission, and are available online at www.palmettomastersingers.org, from any Mastersinger, or at the door on the night of the concert.
The wide-ranging program includes traditional Christmas songs “Ave Maria” and “O Holy Night,” spirituals such as “My Lord What a Mornin,’” the Israeli folk song “Hava Nageela,” Aaron Copland’s boisterous hoedown, “Stomp Your Foot,” and many more.
Lillian Quackenbush is artistic director of the all-male Mastersingers chorus, now in its 39th season. Allison Hilbish is accompanist. St. Joseph Catholic Church is at 3600 Devine Street, and St. Andrews Presbyterian is at 6952 St. Andrews Road.
