McKissick Museum will present the documentary film Fambol Tok on April 9 with a Q & A with filmmaker Sara Terry following. Fambol Tok tells the story of an unprecedented program of tradition-based truth-telling and forgiveness ceremonies at the end of Sierra Leone’s brutal civil war. Through reviving their ancient practice of fambul tok (family talk), Sierra Leoneans are building sustainable peace. Filled with lessons for the West, this film explores the depths of a culture that believes that true justice lies in redemption and healing for individuals – and that forgiveness is the surest path to restoring dignity and building strong communities.
After the film, Terry will be the special guest for a McKissick Mixer. Mixers are free to Museum members and $15 for non-members. To RSVP, email mckscal@mailbox.sc.edu or call 803-777-6403.
