USC Symphony Orchestra: Berlioz Requiem

USC Symphony Orchestra: Berlioz Requiem

Presented by USC School of Music at Koger Center for the Arts

Guest Artist Christian Šebek, tenor
The Berlioz Requiem is a monumental work that calls for a huge orchestra, a massive choir and a tenor soloist. Nearly 400 performers take to the Koger stage for this rare event, only the second time it has been performed in Columbia. Students from USC’s orchestral, band and choral programs join together in this massive year-end finale. The USC Concert Choir, University Chorus and the Coker College Singers join the USC Symphony Orchestra and guest artist, Christian Šebek, who is currently performing on Broadway in Phantom of the Opera as Ubaldo Piangi. The New York Times praised Šebek as “possessing a marvelous voice,” and the Houston Chronicle extolled his singing as “full of visceral excitement.” The orchestra is led by Maestro Donald Portnoy, recipient of the 2015 Elizabeth O'Neil Verner Award.
