Wade Dorsey, a historian with the SC Department of Archives and History, will take us back 150 years to Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman’s march through the Midlands after burning Columbia in February 1865. Mr. Dorsey’s presentation will focus on the route that Sherman’s troops took from Columbia to Ridgeway, with Doko (the greater Blythewood area) right in their path of destruction. Light refreshments, reminiscent of the Civil War era, will be served. Members of the Blythewood Historical Society will also be displaying Civil War-era memorabilia, and will have copies of “A Diary from Dixie” on sale for anyone who would like to read and learn about the Civil War from Mary Boykin Chestnut’s perspective.
