Southern Exposure New Music Concert: Dolce Suono with Soprano Lucy Shelton

Presented by USC School of Music at USC School of Music Recital Hall

This concert presents “Earth,” a work that sets ancient Chinese poetry to music by award-winning USC composer Fang Man and “Moon Songs” by Pulitzer-prize winning composer Shulamit Ran. Dolce Suono Ensemble has been dazzling audiences and invigorating the music world since its founding by flutist and artistic director Mimi Stillman in 2005. With artists drawn from Philadelphia’s premier musical institutions – Curtis Institute of Music, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Temple University, University of Pennsylvania – Dolce Suono Ensemble engages the audience in chamber music through innovative and dynamic programming. About Lucy Shelton, the Boston Globe wrote that the acclaimed singer, one of contemporary classical's leading sopranos, is a "new music diva" with "musicianship, technique and intelligence that are unfailing." The concert will be preceded by a 6:30 p.m. presentation by Joseph Lam, chair of the Department of Musicology at the University of Michigan.
