MELLOW HORNS AND PULSING DRUMS TEAM UP WITH THE PALMETTO MASTERSINGERS FOR THEIR HOLIDAY PROGRAM, BROTHERS SING ON
PALMETTO BRASS JOIN PALMETTO MASTERSINGERS
FOR HOLIDAY CONCERTS
Mellow horns and pulsing drums team up with the Palmetto Mastersingers for their holiday program, “Brothers, Sing On.” The concert will be presented twice, first on Friday, November 16, at Union United Methodist Church in Irmo, and again on Saturday, November 17, at Shandon Presbyterian Church. Both performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and are available via www.palmettomastersingers.org, from any Mastersinger, or at the venue on the night of the program.
The Palmetto Brass quintet accompanies the singers in Daniel Pinkham’s “Christmas Cantata,” and also presents an arrangement of carols for brass, “Christmas Crackers.” Popular percussionist Matthew Jones lends his unique talents to the frenzied “The Sleigh” and to the Nigerian Christmas song, “Betelehemu.” No Mastersingers concert is complete without a spiritual. This one features the Robert Shaw arrangement of “Set Down Servant.”
Artistic Director Lillian Quackenbush, now in her third season leading the Mastersingers, said, “Holidays seem to awaken our senses, as familiar sights, smells, and sounds bring memories of scenes, tastes and songs that warm our hearts.”
