USC’s premier wind ensemble presents a world premiere.
Composer Nico Muhly, one of the country’s top composers, will be on campus for his world premiere performance and recording of Reliable Sources for bassoon and orchestral winds. The piece was commissioned by a consortium of bassoonists and conductors around the country that was organized and led by music faculty Michael Harley, Scott Weiss and the USC Wind Ensemble. A highly sought-after composer, Nico Muhly has received commissions from The Metropolitan Opera, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and many others. He has also appeared as himself in a recurring role on the popular TV show “Mozart in the Jungle.”
